COP30 – the Conference of Forests and of People

Dear ,

Having just returned from COP30 in Belém, I am still impressed by the energy generated when so many different stakeholders around the world come together for climate protection. It was particularly noticeable in discussions with government representatives, market players, civil society organisations and, above all, with the local population and indigenous leaders.

In the heart of the Amazon, it became clear once again that without the protection of forests – and of the people who have preserved them for generations – there can be no real climate protection.

Nature-based projects are key levers on the path to net zero. They protect the climate, biodiversity and entire ecosystems – habitats for plants, animals and people. It is crucial that local and indigenous groups are at the centre of this from the outset.

This basic requirement is non-negotiable for our myclimate team: our projects are based on the highest standards, such as Gold Standard or Plan Vivo; they assign responsibility, and create measurable added value. Ecologically, socially and economically.

An inspiring example of this is our “Babatana” project in the Solomon Islands, which my colleague Silvana Comino recently visited. In the new year, she will report here on how indigenous groups are actively protecting the climate and environment there.

COP30 has shown me once again that there are many reasons to be optimistic. If we act now, strengthen local solutions and promote real climate protection. And if we give more visibility to the people who live it every day.

To the COP conclusion

Best regards,

Franziska Heidenreich

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Sets new Standards in Climate Protection: Fundamental Upgrading of Climate Protection Projects

The revised draft of the Corporate Net-Zero Standard 2.0 of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) was published on 6 November. It calls on companies not only to reduce their own emissions, but also, for the first time, to actively promote climate protection projects beyond their own value chain. Find out what this means in concrete terms and what opportunities it offers.

COP30: Article 6 Gains Momentum, and With it the Responsibility of the Private Sector

The climate conference in Belém was a “work COP”. As the major decisions on the implementation of the Paris Agreement had been taken in Baku in 2024, the focus now, in Belém, was on defining and implementing existing mechanisms. Our myclimate delegation followed the negotiations for two weeks and held discussions with country representatives, in particular to explore opportunities for international collaboration surrounding Article 6.

The EU Climate Target Will Have a Huge Impact on Emissions Certificates for Companies

The EU is tightening its climate targets and is allowing the use of carbon credits from non-EU countries for the first time from 2036. This will have far-reaching consequences for prices, availability and the strategy of many companies. How is the market changing and what should companies pay attention to now?

I’m Stefan Grob

Four years ago, myclimate and the family-owned company Grob Gemüse AG jointly launched a geothermal pilot project. The aim is to reduce the CO₂ emissions caused by heating greenhouses by replacing fossil energy sources with renewable heat. Thanks to myclimate’s support programme, the income from climate protection financing will help cushion higher energy costs and facilitate further investment in the long-term development of the plant. Get to know Stefan Grob and our project even better!
