Moors as Natural Climate Protectors – A Visit to La Gruère

Hello ,

I recently visited the La Gruère raised bog and saw how powerful renaturation can be. Bogs store large amounts of CO₂ and are also hotspots of biodiversity and habitats for endangered species. Despite their legal protection, many raised bogs in Switzerland, Germany and Austria are in an unnatural, drained state. As a result, CO₂ is released continuously.

In La Gruère, I was able to observe how rewetting works: drainage ditches are structurally closed, the natural water balance returns, and the peat soil begins to store CO₂ again for the long term.

At myclimate, we closely accompany and monitor such projects. We test their effectiveness on the ground and ensure that the expectations of the funders are met. In this way, we combine climate benefits, biodiversity protection and credible impact.

Read our article to find out how raised bogs can become true climate protection heroes and how myclimate uses monitoring and project financing to create long-term impact.

Project visit: experience climate protection on your own doorstep

We often talk about climate protection projects, their impact on climate targets and their specific added value for companies. But how does regional climate protection feel? Together with partners, we visited our forest renewal project in Herzfelde and experienced first-hand what commitment to the landscape, climate and biodiversity means. This made it clear why corporate action is indispensable for climate protection.

Climate Talk with Dario Schwörer – a Family Travelling the World by Boat for the Climate

Sabine and Dario Schwörer have been sailing around the world with their children for over 25 years, showing young people how they can get involved in climate protection. Their commitment can currently be seen in the film Home is the Ocean. In our Climate Talk, Dario discusses what touched him the most on his travels, why he chose this spartan way of life, and how he contributes to world peace through his work.

I’m Mélanie Siegrist, Project Manager Nature-Based Solutions at myclimate

We use targeted renaturation of the Jura raised bog to create real added value for the climate, biodiversity and the regional economy. In this interview, our project partner Marc Mallet explains how our project works and why partnerships like these are crucial. An insight into successful, nature-based climate protection solutions.

More than just CO₂ value: how do we measure the SDGs for our projects?

Our bog projects show that climate protection works on many levels. But how can effects on biodiversity, regional development or education be measured? Read our FAQs to find out how myclimate transparently assesses its contribution to the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
